Interview with Ivan Paul Abanilla : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : The main idea is to build a table adaptable to the user needs. Which is giving the best idea, solution and realization of the problem. In certain situations, we get the need to improve. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : My main focus is to perform a solution adept to existing configurations of lounge/bed and comfort chairs. But mainly is to have my own working table to replace the wooden chair I am using. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : To provide further development and have the idea realize. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : It took me 1 year and 7 months from idea to concept. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : I designed this product to fit my needs as my room doesn't fit a proper working table and also identify certain ergonomic problem. Often times we use a stool or a chair beside the table. Which i do. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Currently it has not been produced but to be worked on that direction. Yes, I am planning to lease the production rights but would depend on the market area. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Due to the need and promote continuous improvement. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Day to day activities have somehow brought up the design concept up to now. Working with design oriented colleagues have added up some influences. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : The design idea would fit well on consumer and personal use since it is mostly having the same needs in relation to comfort. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Different approach in providing solution which is more to hands free use and operation. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : The name Ergo-Table describes more of the objective which is human form function. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Use of sketches and CAD software. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : The no. of features which are usable to aid its function in ergonomics. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : As it is more on the design conceptual stage, more towards my close friends and family on sharing the idea. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Validating the design, and getting the proof of concept in its track. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Data gathered was more on individuals preference and more or less similar problem which will improve ergonomic needs of the user. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Challenges is more on integrating the design into having a single/whole part with the bed. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : By having to realize that the design/idea would be suitable to others and get some feed backs. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Ivan Paul Abanilla : Learning the importance of moving forward thru hardships. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?.
