Interview with Vyara Zlatilova : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Vyara Zlatilova : Consumerism .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Vyara Zlatilova : I was experimenting in trying to recreate my personal interests, group membership and social standing based on the products I've recently consumed. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Vyara Zlatilova : I will try to develop further the idea and try to desseminate the edition, probably by mail, to unknown readers who I will ask for assumptions about the personality of the receipts owner (without telling them that's me). .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Vyara Zlatilova : It took me 3 months of research to develop the concept. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Vyara Zlatilova : It was an university project. We were asked to design a conceptual artist's multiple. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Vyara Zlatilova : My design is not commercially made. It is intended to be a piece of art. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Vyara Zlatilova : My interest in artist's books. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Vyara Zlatilova : I was influenced by Ed Ruscha's editions, along with many more book artists, who use everyday objects in different contexts. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Vyara Zlatilova : Everybody, there's no particular target. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Vyara Zlatilova : It's so simple, jet the psychological idea behind it is very deep and complex. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Vyara Zlatilova : It is a diary of me as an unkown consumer - The consumer's diary - simple as that. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Vyara Zlatilova : My design doesn't require any specific software or design tools, I used basic scanning and layout software. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Vyara Zlatilova : That it is trying to capture an identity by using something so simple as the reciept. It is a very simple, yet full of complexity and personality design. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Vyara Zlatilova : Everything apart from the actual printing is done by me. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Vyara Zlatilova : There's a technology role to some extend because nowadays we are able to keep track of everything we have ever bought or done, including the exact timing of the events. Having that in mind, one may say that we are even able to examine how our personailities evolve using everyday technologies. That is exactly what my project is about. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Vyara Zlatilova : It is relating on analytical data 100%. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Vyara Zlatilova : I was warried that the idea might be too simple for people to appreciate. But I am happy that I trusted my gut and left it simple, because as we all know somethimes less is more. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Vyara Zlatilova : It is important for less experienced designers to try in such competitions. I believe it is a way to improve what I do and receive important feedback, which will help me improve my future designs. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Vyara Zlatilova : I learned that I have to follow my own instincts and do what I think is right. .
